Home / Editorial Link Building
Editorial links, earned on relevance rather than volume.
We pursue links a real editor would choose to publish, in places your customers actually read.
Editorial link building means earning backlinks because an editor finds your content, data or expertise useful to readers, not because a link was purchased. It works best alongside Digital PR and gives search engines a clear signal that your site is trusted.
Strong editorial links can:
Improve your search engine visibility
Drive referral traffic to your website
Build authority in your field
Help search engines discover your content faster
However, not all links are equal. Low-quality or spammy links can harm your site. That's why we choose publications on relevance and review your link profile before and after.
Why relevance beats volume
A link is a vote of confidence, and votes count most when they come from places that know your subject. One link from a respected publication in your industry does more for your credibility than dozens from unrelated sites.
Volume-first link building also carries risk. Sites that sell links in bulk tend to be low quality, and search engines have spent years getting better at ignoring or discounting manipulative links. Building slowly on relevance is not only safer, it produces links that keep working.
That is why we do not sell packages by link count. We plan around your goals, choose publications on merit and earn links through content and outreach that an editor would say yes to.
How we choose publications
Every target is checked against the same questions before we pitch it:
- Does its audience match your customers?
- Does it have real editorial standards and a genuine readership?
- Is it topically relevant to the page we want to support?
- Does its own link profile look natural, with no signs of paid-link networks?
- Is it relevant to the market you want to win, such as the US, UK or Australia?
Metrics such as traffic and authority scores are inputs, not the decision. A small trade publication read by your buyers can beat a large site that nobody in your market visits.
The methods we use
- Digital PR link acquisition: links earned as a by-product of coverage. See Digital PR.
- Resource page outreach: suggesting your guide, tool or research to pages that already curate useful sources.
- Broken link building: replacing dead links on relevant sites with a working, useful alternative.
- Unlinked brand mentions: turning existing mentions of your brand into links where it makes sense.
- Link insertions and niche edits: adding a link to a relevant existing article, only when the editor agrees it improves the piece.
- Competitor link gap analysis: finding the publications that link to your competitors but not to you.
- Contributed articles: expert pieces placed with real editors. See guest posting.
Our process
- Audit. We review your current link profile, your competitors and the pages that matter most to your business.
- Strategy. We choose target pages, topics and a natural mix of anchor text, focusing on brand and descriptive phrases rather than forced keywords.
- Assets. If a page is not worth linking to, we improve it or create something that is, often with research and linkable content.
- Outreach. Each pitch is written for a specific editor and explains, in a few lines, why their readers would care.
- Placement and quality check. We confirm the link, the context and the page before reporting it.
- Monitoring. We watch for lost links and changes in your profile, and adjust the plan.
What we won't do
- Buy links from networks or marketplaces.
- Use private blog networks or link farms.
- Promise a fixed number of links or a specific authority score.
- Over-optimize anchor text with exact-match keywords.
- Guarantee rankings. Links are one signal among many.
How we report
You receive a clear monthly report showing every link earned, the publication, the page it points to, the anchor text, and the effect on referring domains and search visibility. We also flag risks, such as lost links or unusual changes in your profile.
If you are not sure where you stand today, start with a backlink audit and competitor analysis. It shows which gaps are worth closing first.
Anchor text and link quality
Anchor text is the clickable wording of a link. Editors choose it, not us, and natural links usually use a brand name, a page title or a descriptive phrase. Forcing exact-match keywords into every link looks unnatural and adds risk without adding trust.
Where a link sits matters too. A link inside a relevant paragraph, on a page that gets real readers, carries more meaning than one placed in a footer or a list of unrelated sites. We check placement, page quality and whether the article will remain live before we count a link as delivered.
It also helps to link to the right destination. Sending every link to your homepage is a missed chance. We match links to the pages that answer a reader's question, such as a guide, a research page or a service page, so the visitor arrives somewhere useful and your important pages gain support. If a destination page is thin, we suggest improving it first through content and thought leadership before earning links to it.
Who it fits
Editorial link building suits companies that compete on trust: SaaS, technology, e-commerce, professional services and B2B brands that need to rank against established players. It is a poor fit if you need results in days, want the cheapest possible links or have a website that is not ready to convert visitors. In that case we will point you to a better first step.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between editorial links and paid links?
An editorial link is placed because an editor decides your content is useful to readers. A paid link is bought. Search engines treat paid links that pass authority as a guideline violation, so we do not build them.
How many links will I get per month?
It depends on your goals, niche and assets. We plan for quality and relevance, and report every link so you can see the impact. We do not sell links by the number.
How long until links help rankings?
Search engines need time to discover, process and weigh new links. Most brands see movement over several months, alongside strong content and technical health.
Do links matter for AI search?
Indirectly. Links and mentions from trusted publications strengthen the signals AI systems draw on. See AI search visibility for the full picture.
